INC Flying High with Mike Southon for County Air Ambulance
Hawkstone Park Hotel was the venue for a stimulating talk by Mike Southon, International Speaker and Author, who currently has a weekly column in the Financial Times. His presentation entitled 'Something About the Beatles' was actually an inspirational talk about succeeding in business - which the Beatles overwhelmingly did - and included clips from many of the Beatles songs which the audience, young and old, joined in with - the finale concluded with everyone singing 'All you need is love'. The event was organised by INC (Shropshire) and Mike's talk was followed by an auction of 5 unique items which raised £550 for the charity. With ticket sales and a raffle, a total of £1192.00 was raised for County Air Ambulance. Winning bidders can now look forward to golfing in style, a Magical Mystery Tour flying over the Welsh borders, tea for two at the House of Commons, a luxury caravan holiday and a visit from the spring clean fairies. Membership Secretary, Barbara Rainford said: "I met Mike Southon at Birmingham Business School and suggested his interactive presentation would bring a sparkle to our local business community. INC members donated auction items to help raise money for the charity." The event was attended by INC members and guests and Mike
was delighted to have two Mayors - Pauline Dee (Wem) and Doris Ankers
(Whitchurch) in the audience. At the end, Mike Southon offered
a free business consultation to everyone in the room. Everyone
said how much they had enjoyed the talk and left feeling greatly inspired.

INC raises over £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Members and guests at a recent meeting of the Independent Network Club (Shropshire) were treated to a fund-raising surprise when 2007 Chairman, Suzi Rixon, arrived to present Elodie Home with a cheque for £1539.73 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Along with the INC committee and members, Suzi had organised a Barn Dance ‘Midsummer Madness' at Northwood Farmhouse, Wem and a 'Festival of Food and Drink' at Dearnford Lake, Whitchurch to raise funds for her charity of the year. Founder member, Neil Pharo of Park Row Associates also made a significant contribution to funds by donating to the charity part of his remuneration on referrals received from club members. Apart from providing excellent networking opportunities, the events were a great success for all concerned. Last September, MP, Owen Paterson joined members and guests on a beautiful sunny evening at Dearnford Lake along with North Shropshire District Councillor, Marilyn Patrick and Mac Sandal, North Shropshire Economic Forum Officer to support the event. North Shropshire District Council provided £500 towards funding and many of the local food and drink producers that exhibited that evening have since benefited from the links that the event provided - in particular with an introduction to the buyer for the new Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone Railway. Ann Page, Chairman for 2008, has now chosen her charity for the year - Shropshire Air Ambulance - which provides a rapid paramedic response to the most life threatening medical emergencies and remote destinations, carrying out over 180 missions per month. The charity relies on people and organisations to raise in excess of £3 million every year to operate this valuable service. INC (Shropshire) is a business network club and rural support group that meets at Hawstone Park Hotel every fortnight, alternating morning and evening meetings. The club has grown steadily since its inception nearly six years ago and now has over 50 members. Known fondly as 'the friendliest network club' INC has a warm welcome for guests at meetings. |

Members of the Independent Network Club ( Shropshire ) were delighted to welcome MP, Owen Paterson as a guest at their recent breakfast meeting at the Hawkstone Park Hotel. In the questions that followed, Lynda Peate of John Peate Architectural Services asked why there are no government supported apprenticeships for professions like architects. Discussion followed on the current state of the NHS - referring to a hospital poster that Mark Laws of Carter Jonas Property Consultants, had brought back from a holiday abroad saying: 'WE TREAT PATIENTS AS HUMAN BEINGS'. Owen Paterson hopes to join INC members for breakfast again later in the year. INC ( Shropshire ) is a business network club and rural support group that meets at Hawkstone Park every fortnight. Businesses Raise funds for Toddler with Cerebral PalsyTony Goodwin (The Marquee Company exhibiting at Mere Park Garden Centre) has been elected as the Independent Network Club's new Chairman for 2005. At the first meeting of the club this year Tony said: “The Independent Network Club is one of the most prestigious and vibrant clubs currently operating in the region and I am very proud and honoured to have been elected as Chairman.”
INC was set up nearly three years ago as a business network and rural support group. Its whole ethos is about promoting and supporting business through referrals and through a strong sense of group support for each other. Speaking about the benefits of networking Tony said: “Being part of a Business-networking group is an excellent way of helping to grow your business. There is no greater testimonial than word of mouth. “ Unlike most other network clubs, part of the club's remit is fundraising, this year Tony has chosen to help Oliver Jones from Roddington near Wellington . Oliver, three and half years old, has Cerebral Palsy along with other serious complications. This means he requires 24 hour care and his parents, Carolyn and Dean, are trying to raise money to cater for his ever growing needs. Tony has set up an internet shop www.buy.at-inc where you can buy goods at high street shops and up to 10% goes to INC 's appeal fund. Last year the club raised £2000 for the Umbrella Appeal receiving a thank you letter from Josie Mitchell stating that £132,000 has now been raised for specialist equipment for the new stroke unit at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital . INC currently has over 40 members and this year will be removing its membership limit to extend membership to new businesses. To this end Tony has enlisted the help of Suzi Rixon and Nick Chavasse , non-executive officers who have previously held the office of Chairman and they will now be actively promoting the benefits of networking. |

The John Peters Story'An evening with John Peters' Wednesday, 22nd September, 2004 was sold out. John Peters gave a very emotional yet heart-warming talk to an audience of over 80 people. Proceeds from the evening are being donated to the Umbrella Appeal - support for stroke victims. Josie Mitchell, the founder of the appeal will be attending the Festive Evening on 8th December to receive a cheque from chairman, Nick Chavasse of nrg Direct Mail. John Peters proved to be a very entertaining speaker with the ability to make his audience laugh and cry - sometimes both at the same time. He talked of faith in the face of adversity, how his harrowing experience had affected him and how his thoughts of his baby son helped him get through. However bad our experiences they can change us for the better - if we put our minds to it. Determination is a quality shared with John Peters by all the business men and women of INC (Shropshire). A spell-binding evening. The Shropshire Star and the Shrewsbury Chronicle both covered the event showing pictures of John Peters with Josie Mitchell, members of INC and guests.
